About Us

The Algebra Toolbox is the result of many years’ teaching experience. The author, Rick Bowman, understands how students learn and has developed clear explanations that are easily understood.

Rick Bowman

Rick Bowman was educated at Sydney University and Sydney Teachers’ College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (1973), Diploma of Education (1974) and Master of Education (1996). He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM) and Member of the Australian College of Educators (MACE).

An educator of many years’ standing, Rick began as a maths teacher at Sydney Boys’ High in 1975. Since then he has been a teacher, head teacher, deputy principal and principal, working in schools in NSW, Qld and Vic.

Since 1992 Rick has also consulted for the Curriculum Corporation, presenting many educational workshops in Mathematics education to teachers in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.  Rick has also co-authored a number of textbooks including the Cambridge Queensland Mathematics B and C texts.

In 2003, the first edition of the highly successful Algebra Toolbox suite of maths resources for secondary schools was produced. In subsequent years, new resources and PowerPoints have been added.

Rick also assists teachers Australia-wide with their career development, providing support for teachers and school administrators wishing to prepare for promotion. See the Teachers' Professional Résumés website for details.
